Playing catch-up
Hello Everyone,
I decided to create a blog instead of doing my updates. I tend to fall a little behind, well very behind when I write the updates so I'm hoping this will work better for me. We have been very busy as usual and I know I haven't written anything since June. I will do my best to update you all briefly to catch you up.
In July the Tennessee Youth group came to our church on a mission trip and did some much needed repairs and they even revamped the church garden. It turned out beautiful! They stayed a week but it seemed like we have known each other for years. It never ceases to amaze me how much can be accomplished for the Lord when people stand up and step out for Him.
Tiffany and Rochelle spent a day on a mission trip to New Orleans with the Tennesse youth group. They helped to clean out one of the schools. We miss the youth group but Tiffany keeps in touch with some of them by email.
Heather spent a week on a mission trip to New Orleans where she helped gut some homes and feed the people. There is still so much that needs to be done there to clean it up. Please keep these people in your prayers as the living conditions are still not what anyone would consider completely healthy.
Tiffany turned sweet 16 this month. We went to the movies and saw the movie Cars. It is definitely a must see movie. We loved it. I think we will probably get it when it comes out.
Heather signed up to start getting her GED this month. She passed all the subjects except one but we kind of expected that. Math is a sticking point with her, but I know that she can do whatever she puts her mind to.
August- This month we spent getting started homeschooling lessons again. We are using Switched on Schoolhouse this year so it is taking a little adjustment, but the girls seem to be doing well. Rochelle has been telling me she prefers to do her school work "old school" style; meaning she wants the textbooks back. I find the SOS makes them think a little more because the answers must be precise. No grammatical or punctuation errors allowed and the questions are designed to make them think. I like the program :) It keeps a list of the grades they are making all in one place and that helps a lot too.
September- Heather's 18th birthday came and went this month. It is unbelievable how quickly time passes when you have kids. It seems like yesterday all the girls were babies and now they are turning into beautiful young women. We lucked out and there was a free museum day on Heather's birthday. We spent the afternoon at the Aquarium of the Americas, walked around Jackson Square and also walked the River Walk with a few of the girls' friends. It was fun. It would have been better if David could have come though. He always keeps things interesting but he ended up having to work. There was only one incident while we were out there in which a guy had too much of an interest in Heather but when he saw the two guys with us he made a smart decision to leave her alone.
October- This brings us up to date now. I turned 38 this month. We went to Lifeway Christian Bookstore, one of our favorite hang outs the day before and then on mybirthday I went to mom's for cake. Heather and I went visiting with two of the ladies from our church yesterday. I really enjoyed the time of fellowship and prayer we shared with the people we visited. I am looking forward to doing it again soon. Well, I will go for now. Take care and God bless you all.
